Moving Your Neck in Each Direction
Hey, guys. Dr. Zac here at the Infinity Wellness Center. Dr. Troy and I are gonna talk about range of motion, all right? We should have even motion with our cervical spine to make sure our neck is moving equally in all directions.
First, we’re gonna laterally bend your head over to the side. Now we’ll go to the other side, then come back to the center. Next, we should be able to rotate our head in each direction, just like that. The last one’s gonna be tucking your chin down, like nodding yes, and then bringing your head back.
Pain or Limited Motion
When we do all three of these different motions, there should be no pain whatsoever. The joints should be gliding, and the muscles should be moving the way they should be.
If you experience any sort of neck pain, tension, or limited motion one way versus the other—so, as he turns his head this way, it only goes so far, but when he turns the other way, it goes even further—typically, what that means is there is a subluxation or a misalignment within the joints that’s limiting the way his body should be functioning.
What You Can Check at Home
If you experience any of this at home, these are simple, easy tests you can do. They might indicate you need to come in and get an evaluation to see which vertebra or muscle is causing some of this tension and not allowing the full motion it’s supposed to have.
